I love music. I like most kinds of music, but I prefer classical music and especially opera. I like to play music too.
In our house there was always somebody making music. This is my dad in about 1925 with his saxophone. He played several music instruments. My two brothers and me learned to play the recorder. Later I joined the Royal City Music Band and played the trumpet and horn, my brothers played clarinet and soprano saxophone. I stopped when I went to college.

Years later I started making music again. I bought myself a saxophone (a tenor and later on a baritone) and joined the local Ugchelen Music Band. I switched to percussion because our band lost its drummer. Now I am in two bands as a percussionist, playing timpany, snare drum, base drum, cymbals, drum set and all small percussion instruments. I teach and conduct a group of starting musicians. And for myself, to play at home, a bought a soprano saxophone. The pictures show me in my regalia for Memorial Day, conducting the national Anthem on Queens Day and behind the drum set during an open air concert.
To be honest: I am not a good musician. I play for fun, but I better have no ambitions to become a good music player ever. I better leave that to my son, who plays the guitar in a church band. He had his own band "Othello" before he left to the States. On this picture he is in the middle.

My wife Dory loves music too. She sings in a choir and teaches to play the recorder.
I hope my grandkids will love music too. They seem to like the piano and the drums...
