I started as a primary school teacher, but I soon switched to a career in information technology. That was in 1970...

I started my career at the St. Lucas primary school in Apeldoorn. Here I met my
wife Dory, who came to that school as a teacher in the same year. Sorry, no link here, because the school doesn't exist anaymore.

As I thought computers were very interesting and useful in education too, I
went to Philips Computers Industry in Apeldoorn, where I started as a teacher
in introduction, flow charting, programming and so on. We moved to the Philips
Office in The Hague, where I became responsible for user and programmers
documentation too. No link to this place either, because the whole building was pulled down...

After ten years Philips came with its famous P2000 home computer and the
manager asked me to promote this machine in schools. So I did, showing en
teaching in the whole country how to handle and what to do with computers in
education. I wrote programs and books for children and students. On this
picture you see me, surrounded by Kindergarten teachers...

Just before Philips stopped its activity in computers I left, as I got offered
a job at MediaWare in Deventer, where I worked as a team leader of a group of
database and software developers. The picture shows me and my collegues Jaap,
Henk and Han. We made catalogues, directories and other publications, using
databases and type setting software. Here I started working with the Internet
and the World Wide Web.

Due to a reorganization I had to look for a new job after ten years, which I found at EDUShare in Amsterdam, a company that offers study
facilities and class room courses to IT professionals. I am employed as a
trainer and consultant, teaching XML and UML, but also involved in course
development projects. My main responsibility however is publishing of course
documentation and development of e-learning facilities. Don't look for da Opa:
I am not on this picture.

June 2002 Edushare became bankrupt and I had to start looking for antoher job. My wish was to become a (real) teacher again and after three weeks of unemployment I was lucky: a school in Zwolle (about 30 miles north of my home town) asked me to replace a sick collegue. So now I teach Dutch, Business Orientation, German and Introduction to Information Analyses at the Deltion College for vocational training in Zwolle.
